Human rights are the fundamental freedoms and security that belong to every individual, regardless of nationality, gender, age, ethnicity, religion, or social status. They include the right to life, freedom of expression, equality before the law, access to education, and participation in cultural and political life. Rooted in principles of dignity, justice, and equality, human rights are not privileges but universal standards that safeguard individuals from abuse and ensure fair treatment within society. They provide the foundation for peaceful coexistence and democratic participation, enabling people to live freely and with respect for one another.
In today’s world, human rights are especially important for youth workers because they are at the forefront of guiding, supporting, and inspiring young people to engage with their communities and society at large. Youth often face challenges such as discrimination, exclusion, or lack of opportunities, and youth workers act as mentors who can empower them to recognise their rights and responsibilities. By promoting human rights education, youth workers help young people develop critical thinking, empathy, and active citizenship, equipping them to stand up against injustice and to participate meaningfully in democratic life. In this way, youth workers not only defend the rights of young people but also nurture a new generation of socially responsible, informed, and engaged citizens.
The project is designed for youth workers who are passionate about human rights, democracy, and active citizenship. We are looking for motivated participants who want to learn and discover new tools and methods, actively contribute during the mobility, and share what they have learned within their communities afterwards. The training brings together an international group, so participants should also be open-minded, ready to collaborate, and eager to exchange ideas with peers from different cultural backgrounds.
Focus on Inclusion: Priority will be given to youth workers engaged with marginalized or part of disadvantaged groups, ensuring that the project reaches those with fewer opportunities and provides them with the tools to work in inclusive settings.
Apply for this project if you are:
Over 18 years old;
Motivated to learn and apply new methods in your work;
A youth worker actively involved in working with young people;
Passionate about human rights, democracy, and active citizenship;
Ready to participate fully in all phases of the project (preparation, mobility, dissemination);
Willing to share your experience through dissemination activities within your organization and community.
The training course “Get Up, Stand Up! 4 the HRs” aims to empower youth workers as advocates of Human Rights by equipping them with knowledge, tools, and methodologies that strengthen their role in fostering democratic participation and active citizenship. Its objectives are designed to transform youth work practice into a driver for human rights awareness and community engagement.
Create a framework where constructive dialogue and shared responsibility guide youth work, helping participants understand the challenges of human rights debates and adapt their approaches to local community needs.
Encourage youth workers to reflect on their own perceptions and engagement with human rights, fostering curiosity and understanding so that human rights are not seen as abstract concepts but as practical tools for daily life and community-building.
Provide comprehensive training that enhances mentoring skills, enabling youth workers to become multipliers of human rights advocacy and to instill long-term change in the way they engage with young people.
Empower youth workers not only with knowledge but also with pedagogical methods to teach others. By the end, the project aims to ensure that youth workers feel confident in integrating human rights education into their activities and workshops, thus fostering a culture of active citizenship among young people.
In the first phase, the participants meet each other and get comfortable with the surroundings. They take part in team-building activities, learn how to work together, and set their goals for the week. This part is all about creating trust and making sure everyone feels ready to learn and share.
The second phase is the main attraction. It consists of workshops, theory, and creative activities to explore human rights, democracy, and active citizenship. Every day includes reflection sessions and group discussions to connect ideas. A highlight is the visit to a local school, where the group puts their learning into practice by leading activities with young people from the community.
In the third phase, participants look back at what they learned and plan how to use their new skills at home. They evaluate the mobility, celebrate their journey together, and prepare for the next steps in their own communities. The final phase concentrates on effectively sharing the project outcomes. Participants will creatively brainstorm dissemination strategies and celebrate their journey by receiving their Youthpass certification.
*NOTE: The agenda of activities may be adjusted according to the needs of participants.

Make sure to obtain the European Health Insurance Card and secure a Travel Insurance for around 15€ to cover any travel/medical needs during your stay. The insurance costs fall under the participants co-financing responsibilities, which means they won't be eligible for reimbursement;
Always carry your passport or ID card with you. If you have two different documents, keep them in separate luggage in case one gets lost;
The weather is generally cold in Sighișoara during November, with average highs around 8 °C, so it’s best to bring warm layers and a good jacket to stay comfortable;
Travel light and consider only bringing a backpack for ease of movement;
You can use your card for payments in most shops, so it’s convenient to rely on card transactions. If you need cash, avoid exchanging money at the airport, where rates can be less favourable;
